Customs
The numbers 4 and 7 have special significance in the life of the Cherokees. They believe that there are 4 basic directions, North, South, East, and West. The color of east is red which symbolizes victory and power. The color of west is black which represents death. The color of North is blue which represents sadness and defeat and The color of south is white which represents peace and harmony and on the other hand, the number seven represents the place of sacred power. Children were taught from birth to respect all things, and listen to the songs of everything. The Cherokee believed a lot in praying and believed it had magical powers.
Traditions
They celebrated planting and harvesting and Cherokee traditions included basket weaving, pottery, and carving. The Cherokees were the first Indian to publish a newspaper. In the Tallige Cherokee culture all matters are settled around the Council Fire and a new moon ceremonies are held once a month.
